Aurora Control Console: Process

Much capital equipment in the film and television industry is functional at best, suffering from a lack of investment in behavioural research before design and production. When camera professionals want Motion Control, they want it working as soon as possible when on location or on set. Maintenance or set-up issues cost valuable time and money. Motion Control facilitates visual effects, empowering a production team to realise their creative visions. Ethnographic research on a bustling film set and interviews with BBC cameramen shooting in the Arctic provided an empathy for the people who would eventually use the equipment. This resulted in key insights for innovation and, more importantly, a better experience. Collaborating with Kontrol Freax Ltd, the rugged Aurora Console allows for precision movement of camera pan, tilt and roll through balanced hand wheels. More complex operations are controlled through an intuitive touch screen interface.
